Laboratory - Reporting

All final legal reports are reviewed by the Laboratory Director. A standard final laboratory report outline is utilized for most cases.

  • The standard report will outline the exhibits examined.
  • Details regarding the analysis will also be provided, including a brief statement regarding the methodology used to examine the materials, and the purpose of the examinations and findings and conclusions.
  • Data from the analyses are reported.
  • The significance of the results (e.g. inclusion, exclusion, mixed sample, etc.) are stated.

The completed report is submitted to the requestor.

Interpretation of Results

All result interpretations and results reports for legal casework are reviewed and formally certified by the Laboratory Director for court use.

Based on the Genotypes obtained, the laboratory will determine the gender of the sample through the amelogenin locus. STR profiles are assigned for each sample using interpretations from Genotyper and reported in the final results report.

Statistical Calculations

Statistical calculations are performed to determine the combined paternity index and probability of paternity. The population frequencies used for statistical calculations are based on statistics for the given population. Both the combined paternity index and the probability of paternity are reported in the final results report.
