Rapid and Reliable Turnaround Period
Paternity testing at Genex is fast and efficient. Genex guarantees the
use of PCR technology and capillary laser sequencing for all DNA paternity
tests. The turnaround time for DNA paternity testing at Genex is 3 to
7 working days for good quality samples. The laboratory processes all
samples immediately upon receipt and there is no waiting period for the
initiation of sample analysis, thus eliminating any unnecessary delays
in processing. The information provided in this section outlines measures
taken by Genex to ensure that all tests are completed quickly while providing
the highest level of accuracy attainable through the use the latest technology.
Efficient Processing
For a routine DNA paternity test, the request is processed immediately
upon receipt. Whether the request is by phone, fax, or online, all requests
are processed promptly.
No Waiting Period for Appointments
The booking department of Genex contact patients directly (unless otherwise
specified) to arrange an appointment for sample collection at a time
and location which is most convenient for the patient. There is no waiting
period to attend an appointment at any of Genex's collection facilities.
Appointments could be accommodated at most locations from 9AM until 5PM
from Monday to Friday. Weekend and after hour service is also available
at some centres and through mobile service. The efficient scheduling
system at Genex prevents any unnecessary delays in processing.
Express Courier Transport of Samples Immediately after sample collection, the samples are delivered directly
to Genex by express courier service to prevent any delay.
Efficient Laboratory Procedures: Immediate Processing
The laboratory processes all samples immediately upon receipt. Using
an efficient bar-coding system and internal tracking documents, all samples
are processed efficiently and accurately.
Advanced DNA Testing Technology
Genex guarantees the use of the latest PCR technology along with capillary
laser detection for all DNA paternity tests. Genex's molecular diagnostic
laboratory is equipped with the latest and most powerful systems available
for DNA testing, allowing all DNA paternity tests to be performed with
greater speed and accuracy than older methods. Genex is able to process
a DNA paternity test in 3 to 5 working days without sacrificing quality
or accuracy. Quality control measures which are guaranteed by Genex include
automatic retesting and reconfirmation of tests before results are released.
This is a costly procedure and is thus not a regular part of the testing
program with many labs in order to cut costs of testing. Also, Genex
guarantees a CPI greater than 10,000 for paternity inclusions (that's
100 times more accurate than the current accepted standard for court
use in North America!). All paternity exclusions are confirmed by exclusions
at greater than two loci and a probability of paternity of 0%.
Automation: Sophisticated Equipment
Genex's DNA tested facility is equipped with the most advanced technology
and equipment available, which allows the laboratory to automate and
streamline many of the procedures of paternity testing. In addition to
the use of PCR technology, Genex is one of the few paternity laboratories
in North America that is equipped with the ABI 310 sequencer. The ABI
310 sequencer is fully automated and uses a capillary laser detection
system. The relevance of this system is that it drastically reduces the
time required to perform a DNA paternity test while greatly improving
accuracy. Older techniques include silver detection of PCR products as
well as the use of the Hitachi scanner. The older techniques are not
only time consuming, but also not very sensitive and prone to problems
which result in time-consuming re-runs, and are subject to human error
in counting. Genex is equipped with the latest equipment which automated
all aspects of the detection system. The fully automated ABI 310 is able
to do the work of several technicians at a faster speed and with much
greater precision. This system is over a thousand fold more sensitive
than older methods and cuts down processing time by ten fold. Genex is
able to determine the position of a band with the precision of a single
nucleotide. Advanced technology in detection and analysis makes DNA testing
faster and much more reliable. Patients benefit directly from Genex's
superior technology by receiving more accurate tests at lower prices
and a much faster turnaround time.
Flexible Case Volume Capacity Genex is equipped with multiple ABI thermal cyclers and multiple ABI
Prism Genetic Analyzers, permitting automated high throughput and ultimate
precision. Genex possesses the capacity and flexibility to scale up the
volume of testing as required. Sequencing and allele assignment is automated
(GeneScan and Genotyper software) to increase accuracy and productivity.
All allele assignments are carefully reviewed by the Case Manager before
interpretation and reporting. Genex's capacity for high volume testing
prevents any delays in processing time due to back-log.
Casework Priority For a routine request, a typical casework is processed immediately upon
receipt. Results become available approximately 3 to 7 working days after
receipt of a standard case. For accelerated express testing requests,
results are available in a 3 to 5 day turnaround time. Genex has the
technology and capability of processing emergency dedicated accelerated
casework for emergency casework. In such cases, results can become available
as soon as 72 hours after receipt of the sample by the laboratory. If
you have a special situation and require a special request testing service,
please contact our laboratory at 1-888-262-2263 to make arrangements.
