Cortisol is a hormone with roles in regulating metabolism, blood pressure, blood glucose levels, response to infections and stress. It is the main stress hormone in humans and functions to reduce stress levels by influencing the flight-or-fight hormone levels.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
The Thyroid Stimulating Hormone or TSH controls the release of two main thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). Alterations to TSH levels are indicative of early thyroid malfunction, as elevated TSH levels suggest insufficient amounts of T3 and T4 are produced.
Testosterone plays a role in libido, muscle and fat distribution, red blood cell production and energy levels. Even though women have lower levels of testosterone than men, reduced levels of this hormone can affect the weight gain/loss, mood and energy levels. Testosterone is often transported in the blood bound to other proteins. Protein bound testosterone is biologically inactive. This test measures the biologically active free testosterone component in blood.
