Estradiol
Estradiol is the main female sex hormone, with roles in egg production, cholesterol regulation and protection from bone loss. Alterations in estradiol levels can affect fertility as it leads to irregular menstrual cycles, low sex drive, sleep issues, anxiety and fatigue. Estradiol levels decrease with age and low levels can be a sign of menopause.
Progesterone
Progesterone is one of the hormones controlling fertility and menstruation. Following ovulation, progesterone is released to ready the uterus to receive the fertilized egg.
High progesterone levels are maintained through pregnancy to ensure the body does not produce any more eggs. Progesterone also helps the body prepare for milk production. However, if pregnancy does not occur, progesterone levels go down.
Many women experience significant changes associated with both physical and mental wellbeing following menopause. This test detects the levels of two hormones which decline during menopause to provide you with an understanding of how your hormone levels compare to the normal range.
Signs of hormonal imbalance include
- Irregular menstrual cycles
- Hot flashes
- Fatigue
- Unexplained weight gain or trouble losing weight
- Lack of concentration
- Night sweats
- Low sex drive
- Bloating
- Headaches
